For 1974 9.9 and 15 HP. The wrist pin retaining rings used on these engines are like those used on the V-4's only smaller. The wrist pin cone acts as a guide and compresser for the retaining ring while at the same time preventing distortion or weakness. from overcompression. The driver has two "working" diameters. The small diameter tip acts as a ram for pushing the retaining ring down into the cone. The middle section of the driver is used to square the ring in the cone and push the ring into the piston groove. Both tools are case hardened to provide long tool life.
